Power of Hope Wellness Fair

Recovery Is Beautiful participated in the “The Power of Hope” wellness fair on May 19th. The program was held at the Columbus Public Health Department and was presented jointly by Recovery Works, Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County, Center of Vocational Alternatives, National Alliance on Mental Illness of Franklin County and the Peer Center.

The evening featured a panel discussion with individuals in recovery from mental health, addiction or trauma, and family members. The panelists were amazing – sharing their stories and also sharing hope.  I love this quote by Iyanla Vanzant, “When you stand and share your story in an empowering way, your story will heal you and your story will heal someone else.”  Do you have a story to help someone else?

Recovery is Beautiful had a display board with information and Recovery is Beautiful bracelets.  Can we take a minute and talk about the bracelets?  Conversation starters for sure!  I wear my bracelet at all times.  It reminds me of my daughter’s recovery.  It reminds me of hope. It reminds that Recovery is Beautiful!

We all have opportunities to change the conversation.  We all have teachable moments to help others know and understand that mental illness and addiction are chronic diseases, that Treatment Works, People Recover, and that Recovery should be celebrated!
